Hunger Action Month: 30 Ways to Fight Hunger in 30 Days (Charity Event)

For national HUNGER ACTION MONTH, let’s all raise our voices against hunger in America. Join with your local food charity and regional food banks like Tarrant Area Food Bank to take action. Thirty ways kids and adults can fight hunger for 30 days in their communities are suggested by Tarrant Area Food Bank at www.tafb.org/calendar.html. This food bank serves 300 hunger-relief charities in Fort Worth and 13 north Texas counties. Hunger Action Month is sponsored by Feeding America, the national food bank network formerly know as America’s Second Harvest.
Joseph Havel: Two Sheets (to the wind) (Arts)

Dallas Contemporary proudly presents the works of noted artist, teacher and administrator in Joseph Havel: Two Sheets (to the wind). The exhibition continues September 5 to December 24, 2008 and is open to the public Tuesday to Saturday, 10 to 5 pm.Havel uses common materials in his art ~ white dress shirts, curtains, tablecloths ~ to reach out to a broader audience. His interest in fabric began over fifteen years ago, he uese fabric as a medium to explore his interest in draping throughout history. He deftly addresses the technical and artistic challenge of translating limp fabric into flamboyant bronze sculptures and delicate constructions that quietly suggest movement in a process the artist has described as “uncovering the activity of still objects.” Concurrent ExhibitionsMix! The FREE ONE HOUR workshops, conducted by Frazier Revitalization Inc. and Freddie Mac provide straightforward information and advice about all aspects of homeownership, including costs associated with home buying and credit history requirements. For example, a 20 percent down payment and perfect credit are no longer the industry standards for getting a mortgage.
